Screening the Dogs of the Dow For Ideas
The Dogs of the Dow is a short list of likely candidates for dividend investors who are short on time. The Dow Dogs are the ten highest yielding stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average index. These stocks are a good place to start looking for the best dividend stocks if you assume that the Dow Jones Company knows what it is doing when it selects a company to be a component of its widely followed Dow index. You would expect the companies on this list to be the most successful blue chip companies because they make up the index recognized as “the market.” The companies on the Dogs list can change frequently because of changes to dividend distributions, but more likely because of stock price changes. The Dogs have the highest dividend yield because of either high dividends or low price.
List of Dogs
Just because a stock is a component of the DJIA index does not mean you can forget about doing your stock research homework. There may be a reason why a stock is on this list…its low price may be justified and it really is a dog!
